Altos del Angel is a new community towards the airport.  It is a huge community.   Altos del Angel es una barriada nueva hacia el aeropuerto.  Es una barriada inmensa.



Transportation is bad, forcing people to leave their houses before 5:00a.m. to work and many come back home at night.  Reason why most of the houses have one or several dogs, many are tied with short leashes like the one below.  The dogs are considered burglar alarms instead of pets.  Yet there are many other guardians that take good care of their pets.  El transporte es malísimo y obliga a las personas a salir hacia sus trabajos antes de las 5:00a.m. y regresan a casa muy tarde.  Razón por la cual muchas de las casas tienen uno o varios perros, amarrados con una cadena corta como se nota en la foto abajo.  Los perros se consideran como alarmas contra ladrones en vez de mascotas.  Sin embargo hay muchos otros guardianes que cuidan muy bien de sus mascotas.  


Our volunteer Rebeca Fernandez offered her house for the blitz.   Nuestra voluntaria Rebeca Fernandez nos ofreció su casa para hacer la campaña de esterilizaciones. 


The operating area was her living room.  Rebeca worked very hard together with her husband Daniel to post the notices in all the public areas; they also visited many houses to get people to bring their pets.   El salón de operaciones era su sala.  Rebeca trabajó arduamente junto con su esposo Daniel para pegar las volantes en todas las áreas públicas; ellos visitaron muchas casas para convencer la gente que trajera sus mascotas para ser esterilizadas.


On Sunday, August 10, 2008, it rained almost all day but people came with their animals.   El domingo 10 de agosto de 2008,  llovió casi todo el día pero la gente llegaron con sus animales.


And they kept coming.  A total of 108 animals were sterilized -- 99 dogs and 9 cats.   Y siguieron llegando.  Un total de 108 animales fueron esterilizados -- 99 perros y 9 gatos.


The volunteers all did their part for the animals, including a human medical doctor that did the post-op station.   Los voluntarios todos hicieron su parte para los animales, incluyendo un doctor humano que hizo la estación del post-operatorio.


Spay/Panamá pone al alcanze a todas las familias de bajos recursos, los rescatadores y alimentadores, la oportunidad de esterilizar sus animales a un costo muy bajo.  Ningún animal es rechazado si su guardián no puede dar la contribución.  Spay/Panama offers affordable spay/neuter services to all low-income families, rescuers and feeders.  No animal is rejected if the guardian can not give the contribution.

Vimos muchos animales saludables y otros en estado muy triste, como este perrito con un enorme tumor venéreo.   We saw many healthy animals and others in a very sad state, like this little dog with an enormeous venereal tumor.
